RE: flat screen televisions

What happens to an lcd tv in the heat? We have never removed ours and havent had any problems. I had never heard of taking it out of the heat.
I'm not sure exactly why LCD's are not able to withstand high temperatures. However, ours lost its video completely. Perfect sound/No picture. The owner's manual (checked after the fact) contained environmental temperature ranges that we exceeded on the high side. :(

RE: flat screen televisions

Always remove a flatscreen from the TT in hot summer temperatures. We had a nice Vizio LCD that became an expensive doorstop when we forgot to remove it before storing.

RE: nitrogen for tires

The only way on earth to completely fill a tubless tire with nitrogen would be to have the work performed in a 100% nitrogen environment by technicians sporting scuba-type apparatus that enables breathing and capture of their exhaled carbon dioxide.
One can't simply "evacuate" a tire of air and then refill with nitrogen. As air pressure within the tire decreases, the outside air pressure pushing in from all sides would cause the tire to crumple and the seal between the bead and the steel rim to fail. This would allow more of that pesky old common air to enter the tire. :)
We need to start a new thread and debate that chicken and egg thing!

RE: need help with hot water heater

>>then i took a little like check valve out of the line and put in back together and it works like it should<<
Your bypass system obviously requires that two valves be positioned correctly. One will be OFF and the other will be ON. Choose the position that will allow flow of water INTO the tank to be heated.

RE: My Black Tank Clog Strategy

You may just want to poke an old hose up from the outside drain.....its flexible and yet firm enough to unclog your tank. It will go around bends well and wont harm anything.....just stand back when it hits the clog.
When I approached the DW about her using your suggested technique, she recoiled and informed me that I would be contacted by an attorney in the morning! ;) Seriously, I'm prepared to use this method if all else fails. I'm just hoping for the Rid-Ex to work.

RE: gas mileage?

Ours is amazingly consistent! We get 10 mpg anywhere we go in the state of Texas. I used to have the DW pull out the calculator. Not anymore. When I travel 240 miles, the next fuel stop will require 24 gallons. I guess I'm living the simplified retirement I always dreamed about! ;)

RE: My Black Tank Clog Strategy

>>I wouldn't expect the initial big flow to last much more than 5 seconds.<<
The way I described it in the original post might have been misleading. The actual solid waste was no more than expected. Since I knew the tank was full of liquid, the strong flow should have lasted much longer. What happened seemed like someone quickly closed a valve. It was that sudden. Thanks.

RE: My Black Tank Clog Strategy

>>Are you sure your vent isn't blocked? Try dumping with the toilet open.
If that doesn't work and you are sure the vent isn't blocked, buy a flush king that will force water back into the tank breaking up the clog as Dodgeboy recommended.<<
I have not checked the roof vent. I use a "Quickie Flush" that is located on the opposite side of the tank. I can see where the "Flush King" might be better in this situation. Thanks.

My Black Tank Clog Strategy

Two days into a trip this week I attempted a routine dump and flush of the black tank. I pulled the valve and, for 5 seconds, the process began with the expected contents exiting through the clear plastic elbow. Then it abruptly stopped and became a dribbling stream. My worst RV nightmare had happened. My very first clogged black tank.
We planned to travel about 100 miles to another campground that day so I plotted my strategy. The tank was about half full. I added some detergent and more water to bring the tank back to about 2/3 full and headed out on the highway. My plan was to allow the contents to slosh around for a couple of hours and dump before setting up at the new site.
When we arrived, not much seemed to change. Very little material passed the blockage. We decided to stay the night and use the park facilities while I plotted another strategy.
The next morning, before heading for home, we added 40 lbs. of ice to the tank. I thought surely that this semi-geo method would do the trick. When we arrived home, I attempted a dump at the RV storage facility. The flow was better, but not strong and complete.
My next strategy is currently working as I type this post. I decided that excess toilet paper was probably the cause of the blockage. I again made sure the tank was almost full and added a full cup of Rid-Ex to the tank. Since it is supposed to degrade paper, oils, and proteins, I decided to park the trailer in storage for a couple of weeks and see what happens.
Has anyone ever had a problem similar to the one described? If so, how did you solve it? I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have. Thanks.

RE: Entry Door Locks - Key# EF317. Do you have one too?

One possible alternative is to switch to the COLT-AR-15 security device. It includes, at no extra charge, a magnificent locking DEAD bolt. :B

RE: New tires today

I think you will be happy with your Maxxis tires. I know I've been very satisfied with mine. But, before you take that daughter camping, double check the tire pressures. Just because they were "professionally" installed doesn't mean they are right. I have checked tires that were installed by nationally known tire shops that have varied by -6 to +12 psi. Always remember that some guys slept through math class. ;)

RE: Not many TT on the road.

How ironic that this thread was posted! On a recent 400 mile trip (one day, 8+ road hours) to the Texas coast, the DW and I kept an exact count of travel trailers and 5th wheels which passed us going the opposite direction. Our tally was 67 fivers and 12 TT's. That works out to 85% 5th wheels. I don't know about the national percentages, but our "scientific survey" was eye-opening. I never realized that 5th wheels constituted such a majority.

RE: tires

My original Goodyear Marathons were Made in Canada. My current Maxxis are Made in Thailand. An era has passed and few of us will ever be able to use tires Made in USA again. I vividly remember, in 1985, teaching my young daughter to avoid items in Wal-Mart that were Made in China. Well, 23 years later, the joke is on me. I am hard-pressed to find anything, anywhere, at any cost that is NOT made in China! Sorry, I just had to vent.

We have a 25' 2002 Coachmen and have been very happy with the overall construction of the unit. It is definitely a "solid" travel trailer.

RE: denman or goodyear tires

I think you'll find that Goodyear Marathons trump Denmans on this forum. But, ...... don't choose either one until you investigate the Maxxis M8008 Radials. They get some great reviews and are less expensive than Marathons.

RE: Corpus Christi,TX

We spent 5 days this month at On the Beach in Port Aransas. Very close to the water, but a very tight fit for our 25' TT. Drove over to Pioneer Park just to look around and was very impressed. They had level, concrete parking slabs. Also very close to the beach. Port Aransas is a great vacation destination. Corpus Christi is just another large town to navigate. Choose PA and you won't be disappointed.

Really? And I thought this job was being handled quite effectively by the Enrons, Exxons, Halliburtons, and ADMs of the Radical Right. I must have missed something during the past eight years. :B
